 Vargas is a surname which is found primarily in Spain. It should be noted that  Vargas family members have migrated through history thereby carrying the name  to many areas.

The surname Vargas is of local origin, deriving from the place where the  ancestors of this lineage lived. In studying our archives we found that in the  year 1083 there is a reference to the surname Vargas.

When did they first arrive in America? 
 Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Among  the early explorers of the New World was Juan de Vargas Pizarro, who traveled  with Alvarado, and accompanied Pizarro to Peru. Also of note was Bernardo de  Vargas Machuca, who wrote a memoir about his military exploits in the  Americas. Other members of the family who were early emigrants to Spain's  colonies in the New World included Fabián, who immigrated to Peru in 1560.
